Boost refers to the positive air pressure created by forced induction systems (turbochargers or superchargers) above normal atmospheric pressure.
Measuring Boost
- PSI (pounds per square inch) - common in US
- Bar (metric) - common internationally
- kPa (kilopascals) - Japanese specification
Boost Levels
- Stock turbo cars: 7-15 PSI typical
- Modified: 20-30+ PSI common
- Extreme builds: 40+ PSI possible
