What is Boost?

Boost refers to the positive air pressure created by forced induction systems (turbochargers or superchargers) above normal atmospheric pressure.

Measuring Boost

  • PSI (pounds per square inch) - common in US
  • Bar (metric) - common internationally
  • kPa (kilopascals) - Japanese specification

Boost Levels

  • Stock turbo cars: 7-15 PSI typical
  • Modified: 20-30+ PSI common
  • Extreme builds: 40+ PSI possible
